Côte D'Ivoire, Morocco Set To Defend Rights Of Immigrants

Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire have agreed to work together to defend the rights of immigrants and preserve their dignity at the international level at a juncture marked by economic recession and restrictive immigration policies.

At a meeting, held Tuesday in Abidjan, Ivorian minister of State, minister of the interior and security, Hamed Bakayoko, and Moroccan minister of the Moroccan expatriate community and migration, Anis Birou, reaffirmed their commitment to join their efforts at the international level to defend immigrants' right who have become a scapegoat and victims of the economic crisis that is currently affecting the world and which is further worsened by the rise of xenophobic and populist political movements in Europe in particular.

For Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire, immigration is major factor in socio-economic development and not a disability.

Through consultation and the exchange of views, and as part of their special relations, Côte d'Ivoire and Morocco have agreed to strengthen their cooperation on immigration in respect for rights and human dignity, Birou and Bakayoko said.
