EU FMs Adopt Decision to Adapt Agriculture Agreement with Morocco Including Moroccan Sahara

The European Union Foreign Affairs Council adopted, on Monday in Brussels, a decision on the adaptation of the Association Agreement and the agriculture agreement with Morocco to include the Moroccan Sahara, a European source said.

This is a measure that is in line with the decision of the EU Court of Justice on the liberalization agreement of agricultural and other products issued on December 21, 2016, which is aimed at extending tariff preferences to the Moroccan Sahara, the source added.

This decision both reinforces the legal basis for exporting products from Morocco's southern provinces to the EU with trade preferences and promotes the development of these regions, according to the same source.

The decision of the EU Foreign Ministers, who called on the European Parliament to adopt it as soon as possible, also enables the EU "to continue to boost its partnership with Morocco and lead the way on the fishing agreement between the two partners in the coming months," the source said.
