EU Reaffirms its Support to Morocco's Migration, Asylum Policy

The European Union reaffirmed its support to Morocco's new migration and asylum policy, which is based on full respect for human rights and aims to integrate legal migrants and recognize the refugee status.

Morocco, which is traditionally a country of emigration due to its geographical location, has embarked on a bold policy of welcome, asylum and integration of migrants on its territory, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said.

To support Morocco's new migration policy, and in a spirit of partnership, the EU has developed a € 10 million program to address the most pressing challenges of the integration of migrants on the Moroccan soil, said Avramopoulos in response to a written question by an MEP.

The European Commissioner said that this "innovative program" has five areas: education, health, control of migration policy, professional integration and support to migrant women.

This project is part of the EU-Morocco mobility partnership aimed at supporting the national migration and asylum strategy of the Kingdom, and providing support to migrants both institutionally and on the ground, he noted.
