EU Welcomes Strengthening Of National Council For Human Rights' Branches In Southern Provinces

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini welcomed the beefing up of the branches of the national rights watchdog, the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) in the southern cities of Laayoune and Dakhla.

In a response on behalf of the European Commission to a written question by an MEP, Mogherini expressed the EU’s support for the strengthening of the branches of the CNDH in the southern cities as well as for the UN’s efforts to achieve a fair and lasting solution to the Sahara issue.

Mogherini, who is also Vice-President of the European Commission, expressed the EU’s concern regarding the regional ramifications of the conflict which has long lasted.

In this regard, the head of the EU’s diplomacy said that the EU financially supports the CNDH to fulfil the task of human rights monitoring including in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla.
