European Weekly: Morocco, 'Major Partner' in Supporting Global Response to Coronavirus

Morocco is "a major partner" in supporting the global response to the coronavirus, particularly in view of its advances in research and innovation, writes the European weekly "New Europe" in its latest issue.

The weekly notes that the kingdom is one of the main partners to have supported this initiative dubbed "Coronavirus Global Response", announced following the call for donations launched on 4 May by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to develop solutions linked to the development of effective means of combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

Morocco has joined the global effort to combat the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic with a view to minimizing the impact of the pandemic on the population, mainly in the economic, social and psychological spheres, notes the publication listing the various measures taken by the Moroccan government under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, since the outbreak of the coronavirus, particularly in the field of scientific research and innovation, an effort that should benefit not only Morocco, but also Africa, Europe and other countries around the world.

The publication cites a series of initiatives launched by Morocco in the field of scientific research and innovation related to the fight against Covid-19, including the conduct of clinical and pharmacovigilance studies, the production of an artificial respiration device, and the design of an application for tracing, which has bolstered the Kingdom's efforts to combat the threat of Covid-19.

Among these key measures, the weekly magazine mentions in particular the production of 10 million masks for local use, and which could also be destined for Europe or abroad.

It refers to the statement of the minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, who said before the House of Representatives that Morocco has decided to export some of these masks abroad, after achieving self-sufficiency, with a daily production of 10 million non-woven fabric masks in nearly 23 factories.

Morocco has already started exporting medical equipment such as gowns and visors, notes the weekly, which also highlights the design of a Moroccan MAScIR test for the detection of Covid-19 that has just been validated by the Pasteur Institute in Paris, while research and development institutes have designed a temperature-measuring device for coronavirus patients, as well as a 100% Moroccan artificial intelligent respirator (the Sircos), both autonomous and remotely controlled allowing patients suffering from respiratory problems and unable to go to the hospital to benefit from artificial respiration at home.
