FM to Russian News Agency: Morocco Wants Realistic Solution to Sahara Issue

Morocco wants a realistic solution to the Sahara issue, said, Tuesday in Moscow, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, stressing that the Kingdom is not willing to take into account positions contrary to UN Security Council Resolutions.

In an interview with the Russian news agency "Sputnik", the minister called on all parties to "show realism and a genuine willingness to reach a solution to this issue".

From the outset, Morocco, which has adopted a clear position on this process (meetings on the Sahara issue), wants to put an end to this regional conflict, which has lasted too long, Bourita underlined, adding that if the other parties had a real will to settle this issue, Morocco has already presented its autonomy initiative.

The minister said that if some parties stand on their obsolete positions, the Kingdom proposes solutions and defines its stance, but is not willing to pursue discussions on non-practical and non-consensual issues.

Regarding the last Geneva round table meeting on the Moroccan Sahara, Bourita stressed that it is part of this new path, noting that progress remains insufficient, however.

He also urged all parties concerned to be "motivated by a genuine desire to move towards a realistic, practical and consensual solution".
