FM Underlines in Brussels Morocco's Tireless Action for Just, Lasting Solution to Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Under International Law

Foreign minister Nasser Bourita underlined, on Wednesday in Brussels, Morocco's tireless action for finding a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict under international law and pertinent UN resolutions.

Speaking at the Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Palestinian People Coordination Group (Ad Hoc Liaison Committee), held in Brussels, Bourita highlighted the continued action by the Bait Mal Al Quds Agency, an arm of the Al Quds committee under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and chaired by HM King Mohammed VI, for the benefit of the people of the holy city.

The minister emphasized the importance and relevance of this international meeting, which "enables us to discuss together the current situation in the Middle East in a frank, calm and responsible atmosphere, especially given the regional and international situation."

In this regard, he underlined the logical international concern over the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to transfer its embassy in it, noting the extreme importance of the city of Al-Quds, not only for the parties to the conflict, but also for the followers of the three celestial religions. "Hence this concern, shared of course, about the negative consequences that this decision could have on peace and stability in a region already undergoing big crises," he said.

Bourita said that the international community is convinced that any unilateral action that undermines the recognized legal and historical status of Al Quds, could turn the issue into a religious conflict and prejudice international efforts aimed at creating conditions conducive to the resumption of peace talks.

It could also increase tension, jeopardize the chances of peace and boost violence and extremism, he said, explaining that this is why we need to initiate a clear, just and comprehensive approach to remedy this critical situation.

Aware of these dangers, Morocco, a member of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee, is continuously advocating for dialogue and moderation, and reaffirming its commitment to the efforts of the international community to search for a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within the framework of international law and pertinent United Nations resolutions, he added.
