Foreign Minister Receives Gambian Counterpart Carrying Message to HM the King

Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita received, on Monday In Rabat, his Gambian counterpart Mamadou Tangara, who was carrying a message from President of the Republic of the Gambia Adama Barrow to HM King Mohammed VI.

In a statement to the press after the meeting, Tangara said he handed Bourita a message from the Gambian President to the Sovereign in which he asked for Morocco's support concerning the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

"In principle, The Gambia should organize this summit next November but given the current situation and constraints, we asked that the turn of the Gambia be postponed till 2022 to prepare it well", said the Gambian diplomat.

"We seek the support of HM King Mohammed VI in this position," he said, reaffirming Gambia's gratitude to Morocco for its unconditional support and reiterating his country's willingness to work jointly with the Kingdom.

Morocco and The Gambia share excellent relations, he said, adding that The Gambia supports Morocco on fundamental issues, notably the Sahara issue, and that his country's stance did not change since the independence.

He also hailed the effective presence of Morocco at the continental level and at the level of the African Union, lauding the African policy advocated by HM the King and its crucial role in fostering African cooperation.
