The Government Continues to Promote Human Rights, Equality and Equity: El Otmani

The government has worked to further promote the values of human rights, equality and equity, Head of Government, Saad Edine El Otmani, said Monday in Rabat.

Speaking at a joint session of the two houses of parliament, El Otmani added that the government has also strengthened the legal framework and national institutions working in these areas, through the adoption of both the Law on the Reorganization of the National Human Rights Council and the Law on the reorganization of the Institution of the Mediator.

The government has updated the National Action Plan on Democracy and Human Rights since 2018, he said, noting that Morocco is among a group of 39 countries in the world that has a human rights plan, in line with the recommendations and the Vienna Program of Action.

As part of the support and development of constructive cooperation and positive interaction with international human rights mechanisms, national participation in the sessions of the Human Rights Council has been further coordinated, he pointed out.

He also said that the government has also paid special attention to the empowerment of Moroccan women.

In this regard, he said that the government's plan for equality (Ikram 2) for the period 2017-2021 includes 24 goals and about 100 measures aimed at protecting women and promoting their rights.

With regard to the strengthening of the status of the Amazigh language, the government has included Amazigh teaching in the higher institutes in charge of administration, justice and communication, he added.
