Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, and Speaker of the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur), Tomas Bittar Navarro, called on Monday in Rabat for the signing, as soon as possible, of a trade agreement between Morocco and the the Mercosur bloc.

The two sides, who held talks in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, welcomed the good relations of friendship and cooperation between Morocco and the Mercosur, a statement from the department of the Head of Government said.

Bittar Navarro is on a working visit to Morocco with the aim of strengthening partnership relations with the Moroccan Parliament and with a view to developing cooperation between the Kingdom and the Mercosur countries.

On this occasion, both sides highlighted the great potential that is supposed to boost the economic partnership, given the strategic location of the two partners, at the crossroads between Africa and Europe, on the one hand, and Latin America and the Caribbean region, on the other, the statement added.

They also mentioned the opening of the Kingdom of Morocco thanks to the free trade agreements signed with the European Union, the U.S., Arab countries, Turkey and several African countries which give access to a large market, made up of a population of nearly one billion people.

Both parties also shed light on the dynamics of the Moroccan economy in several industrial fields, such as the automotive and the maritime industries and advanced technologies.

El Othmani emphasized at this meeting the important role played by legislative institutions in strengthening relations between countries and regional blocs, through the social and cultural dimensions that they bring to bilateral relations.
