Head of Govt. Stresses Need to Respect Law in Dealing With Al Hoceima Protests, Investigate Any Abuse

Head of government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, stressed, on Wednesday, the need to respect the law in handling protests in Al Hoceima and investigate any abuse, expressing confidence in justice to give substance to the royal orientations regarding respect for fair trial guarantees, to investigate any alleged torture and to conduct the necessary medical expertise in accordance with universally recognized legal rules.

In a statement to the press, the head of government expressed his regret and sadness following the painful events that took place last Monday in Al Hoceima and which left several wounded among the demonstrators and the security forces.

El Othmani stressed the importance of pooling efforts to establish a positive climate in Al Hoceima, urging the local population to cooperate in order to bring about calm and peace, necessary for the successful completion of development projects.

Regarding the decisions taken by HM the King at the last Council of Ministers on the projects planned in the province of Al Hoceima, El Othmani affirmed that the government "is mobilized to turn these decisions into a reality and monitor their implementation."

The government has great esteem for the special interest of HM King Mohammed VI in this province, as well as the determination of the Sovereign to ensure that all the commitments made are honored with the requisite firmness, he added, recalling HM the King's call to avoid the politicization of development projects or their exploitation for narrow purposes.

In interaction with the royal decisions, the head of government launched a series of urgent measures, including the convening of a meeting of the majority parties on Tuesday to consider the demands expressed in Al Hoceima, as well as an inter-ministerial meeting on Wednesday of the departments concerned by the "Al-Hoceima, Manarat Al moutawassit" program to consider further efforts in order to catch up on any delay and to respect the deadlines set for projects under this program.
