Interior Ministry, India's International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore Sign MoU to Develop Software Platform

Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Nour-Eddine Boutayeb, chaired Monday in Rabat the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of the Interior and the International Institute of Information Technology in Bangalore (India) for the design and the development of a modular open source platform called MOSIP.

This platform will be the core of the information system of the national population register being currently implemented by the Moroccan government.

The Kingdom will be the first country to participate in the development of the MOSIP and will be its first user. This will enable the country to play a strategic role in the context of South-South cooperation for the promotion of this open source software platform.

Through this MoU, Morocco will benefit from the Indian experience and the technological know-how capitalized during the implementation of the largest population register in the world.

The National Population Registry will ensure the reliability of the identification data and the authentication services of the beneficiaries of social programs for the benefit of the Unique Social Register (RSU) following the instructions of HM King Mohammed VI in the Throne speech on July 29, 2018.

The National Population Register (RNP) and the associated Unified Social Register (RSU) have financial and technical support from the World Bank. In this regard, the World Bank has facilitated a South-South exchange with the Government of India for the development of RNP and it is providing technical support through ID4D, which helps countries to implement digital identification systems that make targeting and social protection programs much more efficient.

The MoU was signed by the Wali Secretary General of the Minister of the Interior, Mohamed Faouzi, and the Commodore Sridhar Srinivasa, Registrar of the International Institute of Information Technology in Bangalore.
