Morocco, G5 Sahel Strive After Security and Economic Prosperity in Sahel Region, G5 Sahel Permanent Secretary

Morocco and G5 Sahel are working to join efforts in order to ensure security and economic prosperity in the Sahel region, said, Tuesday in Rabat, G5 Sahel Permanent Secretary Maman Sambo Sidikou.

The Kingdom of Morocco and the G5 Sahel countries are working to set up a framework for their actions to ensure security in the Sahel region and promote economic prosperity in a region that has enormous potential, stressed Sambo Sidikou in a press briefing after his talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

Sambo Sidikou expressed the wish to see the cooperation between Morocco and the G5 Sahel countries grow stronger because it is destined to succeed.

The Permanent Secretary said that his talks with Bourita were an opportunity to discuss issues related to the G5 and to survey the security situation in the Sahel.

He also highlighted the region's huge economic potential, particularly through a major asset "its youth", deploring the image given to the region as being a place of terror, misery and tragedies.

The G5 Sahel wishes to benefit from the Moroccan experience in several fields, particularly in the field of economy, energy, youth and the fight against desertification, he noted, recalling that G5 member state has a long history of fraternal and fruitful cooperation with Morocco on various levels.

There is Convergence in African Policy Vision by HM the King and G5 Sahel, FM

There is a great convergence between the vision developed by HM King Mohammed VI within the framework of African policy and the one developed by the G5 Sahel countries, said, Tuesday in Rabat, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.

The vision of HM the King and that of the G5 overlap on many points to meet the challenges facing the countries of the Sahel region notably in terms of political governance, ecological and demographic challenges, economic issues as well as social obstacles, Bourita stressed during a press briefing after his talks with Permanent Secretary of G5 Sahel Maman Sambo Sidikou.

The minister said that this vision is voluntary-based since the leadership is provided by the region's countries which must develop their own visions and perceptions and bring about solutions to the present problems while relying on the support of regional stakeholders and international community.

This optimistic vision takes account of the current potential while realistically measuring the challenges to be addressed, added Bourita, noting that it is also global not limited to the security dimension, as it encompasses other dimensions mainly the economic and social ones.

Morocco is Sahel-linked from a geo-political viewpoint given its human and historical ties, said Bourita, adding that everything that happens in this region affects North Africa and southern Europe, hence the need for the mobilization of the international community to support this group of countries.
