Lower House, National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire Sign MoU

The House of Representatives (lower house) and the National Assembly of Côte d'Ivoire signed, Wednesday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and institutionalize bilateral parliamentary cooperation and promote greater coordination between the two legislative institutions.

According to the memorandum signed by speaker of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, and speaker of the Ivorian National Assembly, Amadou Soumahoro, the two parties undertake to contribute, within the limits of their powers, to strengthening the political, economic, cultural and scientific ties between Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire.

The two institutions will work together to exchange parliamentary visits and hold bilateral meetings to facilitate interaction in areas agreed upon.

Speaking on this occasion, El Malki said that the memorandum opens a new era for parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, while stressing in this regard the leading role played by the two parliamentary friendship groups.

He added that future joint initiatives will give a new impetus to Moroccan-Ivorian relations and raise cooperation in the parliamentary field to a higher level.

For his part, Amadou Soumahoro praised the quality of the long-standing relations between Rabat and Yamoussoukro, which he described as "strong and deep". Bilateral links cover areas as diverse as education, health, the economy, trade, tourism and housing, he said.
