Lower House Speaker Reaffirms Morocco's Support for Libya

Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house) Habib El Malki reaffirmed, Monday in Rabat, the support of the Kingdom of Morocco for Libya and the full readiness of this legislative institution to back the Libyan reconciliation process.

During his talks with his Libyan counterpart, Akila Saleh, who is leading a large delegation on a working visit to Morocco, El Malki stressed the importance of stability and unity in Libya, said a statement by the lower house.

After highlighting the difficulties hindering the democratic transition in Libya, El Malki expressed Morocco's hope that this step opens new horizons in order to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and prosperity.

Lauding the strong fraternal relations between the two countries and peoples, El Malki recalled Morocco’s efforts, under the wise leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, which led to the Skhirat Agreement signed in December 2015, calling for overcoming these difficulties which prevent the unification of the institutions of the Libyan State and the achievement of reconciliation between the various parties.

For his part, Saleh expressed his thanks to the Sovereign for his support for reconciliation efforts in his country, noting that the differences between Libyan State institutions negatively impact the daily life of Libyan citizens.

In this regard, he reviewed the latest developments in Libya, calling for accelerating the formation of a national unity government.

The Libyan official also commended the improved visa procedures for Libyan citizens wishing to visit Morocco, highlighting the strong historical, social and cultural links between the two countries.
