This award was given to Mezouar in recognition of his role in promoting sustainable development in the Mediterranean region and the actions he undertook as part of the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), held in November 2016 in Marrakech.

Mezouar said he was honored to receive this award as President of the COP22, stressing that it is a honor for Morocco and for all the teams that made this Conference a success.

Mezouar told MAP that this award is also a recognition of the efforts and the progress made by the Kingdom in this area under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

ASCAME also awarded other prizes to personalities and institutions in the Mediterranean region as a recognition of their efforts to promote the economic development in the region.
