Migration: UN General Assembly President Hails Morocco’s

President of the UN General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, lauded the "extremely important" role played by the Kingdom of Morocco in the adoption of the Marrakech Compact on Migration, a landmark reference document aimed at promoting enhanced international cooperation on migration issues.

"Morocco's role, not only in organizing the Marrakech conference, but in the entire process of negotiating the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, was extremely important and recognized by the international community and the UN Member states," Espinosa pointed out in an interview with MAP.

For her, the Marrakech Compact on Migration has been "one of the greatest achievements" of the United Nations and the General Assembly over the past year.

"I think that the role of the Kingdom of Morocco was absolutely commendable, as it played a leading role in the success of the Marrakech conference," she said, noting that this success is also the result of "Morocco's political commitment to the Migration Compact, in particular, and to the international migration agenda, in general".

Following the formal adoption of the Marrakech Compact and its approval by the General Assembly last December, a process of consultation and negotiation is underway to review the implementation of the Migration Compact, she said.
