A total of 93.4% of abused women do not file a complaint against their aggressor, said, Tuesday in Rabat, minister of Family, Solidarity, Equality and Social Development, Bassima Hakkaoui.

Only 6.6% of women victims of violence have filed a complaint and are mostly divorced or widows, noted the minister, who was the guest on Tuesday of the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) Forum, held under the theme "Combating violence against women: what approach?"

Referring to the results of the second national survey on the prevalence of violence against women, Hakkaoui pointed out the latter reached 54.4% in the last 12 months from the date of the survey (2 January - 10 March 2019).

The prevalence rate of violence is highest in urban areas, at 55.8%, while it stands at 51.6% in rural areas, she said, noting that the most vulnerable age groups are women aged 25 to 29 (59.8%).

Concerning the forms of violence, the minister stressed that the prevalence rate of emotional abuse reached 49.1%, while economic abuse stands at 16.7%, physical abuse at 15.9% and sexual abuse at 14.3%.

The survey also reveals that 3.2% of adult women aged 18 to 64, i.e. 349,688 women, have suffered all forms of violence, while 12.4% of Moroccan women have suffered acts of violence in the public space with a rate of 66.5% for sexual violence, 49.1% for psychological violence and 33.2% for physical violence.

Within the family, the minister went on, 17.9% of Moroccan women were exposed to violence, with a prevalence of 92.2% of emotional abuse, 21.5% of physical violence and 2.2% of sexual violence.

With regard to electronic violence, 13.4% of women reported having been victims of this form of violence, she said.
