Moroccan Ambassador Hilale Visits Colombia in his Capacity as President of UNICEF Executive Board

Ambassador Omar Hilale is on a working mission to Colombia this week in his capacity as president of the UNICEF Executive Board, during which he is accompanied by a high-level UN delegation.

This delegation is composed of members of the Executive Boards of UNICEF, UN Women, the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The objective of Colombia's trip is to visit development projects, supervise the activities of UN agencies on the ground, assess their effectiveness and ensure that cooperation plans between the UN and the Colombian government meet the needs and priorities of the local population. Colombia is home to the largest coordination team of UN agencies in the world.

Hilale and the delegation accompanying him held a series of meetings in Bogota with senior Colombian government officials, notably advisers to Colombian president Iván Duque Márquez, senators, as well as deputy minister of Foreign Affairs Adrianna Mejía Hernándes and ambassadors from contributing countries.

The meetings enabled the UN delegation to be aware of the Colombian government's national policies on socio-economic development, protection of vulnerable populations, including women, children, youth, migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons, as well as the government's efforts in implementing the Peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Hilale will present the final report of this visit to Colombia during a forthcoming UNICEF session at UN Headquarters in New York.
