Morocco Attends World Water Forum Opening in Brasilia
Head of Govt Received in Brasilia by Brazilian President
President of Brazil, Michel Temer, received on Monday at Brasilia’s Palácio do Planalto Morocco’s Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, who leads a high-level delegation at the 8th World Water Forum.
The meeting focused on “the future of the very important relations between Morocco and Brazil”, El Othmani told reporters following the talks, which took place in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador in Brasilia, Nabil Adghoghi.
"Brazil is Morocco's third largest customer in terms of trade, which makes it a major trading partner for the Kingdom," he noted.
The meeting also focused on the means to develop relations between the two countries in the areas of scientific research, agriculture, technology and aviation, El Othmani pointed out.
He recalled in this regard that Brazil has a strong aviation industry and a leading company in this field, which he invited to invest in Morocco.
"There are other sectors that could contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations," he said, noting that the two sides agreed on a "general road map to develop these relations".
On the sidelines of his participation in the 8th World Water Forum, which is held under the theme of “Sharing Water,” El Othmani had talks with delegates of several countries, including with South Korea’s Prime Minister, Lee Nak-yeon.
At this meeting, which took place on Sunday, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and agreed to further develop them in the areas of scientific research, higher education, investment and water management.
"South Korea is ahead in terms of the use of new technologies for optimal water management," El Othmani said.
Regarding his participation in this important international forum, Head of Government stressed that the presence of the Kingdom reflects the great interest shown by Morocco to water-related issues.
"Morocco has a strong water policy that arouses great interest among experts and countries," El Othmani said, adding that Morocco is one of the founders of the World Water Forum, whose first edition took place in Marrakech in 1997.
"Morocco has accumulated an important experience that it shares with friendly countries and is willing to benefit from the experiences of other countries," he said.
The World Water Forum represents an international meeting point to discuss water-related problems and find solutions for the world’s most pressing water issues.
The World Water Forum will run through March 23.

Morocco Attends World Water Forum Opening in Brasilia
The 8th edition of the World Water Forum opened officially, on Monday in Brasilia, in the presence of representatives of over one 100 countries including Morocco.
Held under the theme "sharing water", this edition attracted over 35,000 participants from 170 countries, in addition to 140 ministerial delegations and 10,000 water specialists.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Brazil Michel Temer, emphasized the environment provided by the Forum for exchange of experiences and learning. "Water sustainability requires integrated actions within our countries and between our countries. The solutions we seek are collective, with dialogue and cooperation," he stated. Additionally, Temer pointed out that ensuring access to water is a matter of dignity, and this is the purpose that unites all in Brasilia at this time.
For president of the World Water Council Benedito Braga, the eighth edition of the Forum should prove that sharing is an incentive to improve governance. “Water needs to be at the center of the governments' agenda, with the commitment of various sectors. We need investments to ensure water security, in addition to innovative thinking and adaptive management that can prevent incoming crises. This can be done through shared water resources management, ” said Braga.
The World Water Forum is the world's biggest water-related event and is organized by the World Water Council (WWC), an international organization that brings together all those interested in the theme of water. Its mission is “to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels, to facilitate the efficient conservation, protection, development, planning, management and use of water in all its dimensions on an environmentally sustainable basis for the benefit of all life on Earth”.
Morocco is represented in this event by an important delegation led by head of government Saad Eddine El Othmani.

Morocco Always Took Real Interest in Water Issue, Head of Govt.
Morocco has always taken real interest in the issue of water, said, Monday in Brasilia, head of government Saad Eddine El Othmani, who is leading a high-level Moroccan delegation to the 8th World Water Forum.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of this important event, which will run until March 23, the head of government noted that Morocco has always worked to foster a national water policy that is both forward-looking and wise, based on the mobilization of water resources.
He recalled, in this regard, the legacy of late king Hassan II, who had launched a large operation of dam construction which has enabled Morocco, despite its limited water resources and their irregularity, to overcome the obstacles and support water demand to meet the need of the growing population and the various economic and productive sectors.
El Othmani added that, aware that effective water planning and management require ongoing monitoring and follow-up, the government elaborated a national plan for water which lays down the broad lines of its water policy until 2050, in order to build on achievements, remedy some shortcomings and innovate in terms of production and resource management, while dealing with other aspects related to financing and monitoring mechanisms.
On this occasion, Saad Eddine El Othmani awarded the sixth edition of the Hassan II Great World Water Prize to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in the person of his secretary general Angel Gurria.
