Morocco, China Discuss Means to Promote Cooperation in Tourism

The minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy Mohamed Sajid held, Sunday in Marrakech, talks with Chinese deputy minister of Culture and Tourism Li Jinzao, on means to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the sector of tourism.

Sajid's meeting with the Chinese official, who is currently on a four-day official visit to the Kingdom, was an opportunity to reaffirm the excellent level of the privileged relations between Morocco and China, emphasize the great importance given by the governments of both countries to strengthening cooperation ties in the various fields, and to highlight the efforts made by Moroccan tourism professionals to present offers that meet the requirements of Chinese tourists.

At the end of discussions, Sajid told the press that relations between Rabat and Beijing, particularly in the tourism sector, have significantly improved, particularly after HM King Mohammed VI's visit to China in 2016, adding that a qualitative leap has also been made after the abolition of visas for Chinese nationals: the number of Chinese tourists increased from 10,000 in 2015 to nearly 200,000 tourists in the current year.

The minister also said that during the course of this week, an agreement will be signed between the two countries on the organization of a cultural and tourism year of Morocco in China and another similar event of China in Morocco in 2020, noting that such projects are likely to consolidate the distinguished relations between Rabat and Beijing.

For his part, Li Jinzao said that the visit is part of the development of cooperation between China and Morocco in the tourism and cultural fields, praising the tourism potential of the Kingdom, which is among the first Arab countries to have cooperation links with his country.
