Morocco: Disability Prevalence Rate Reached 6.8 pc in 2014


The national disability prevalence rate reached 6.8 pc in 2014, that is 2,264,672 people who reported disabilities of various types and degrees of a total reference population of 33,304,000, a recent national survey said.


   According to the results of the survey presented Tuesday in Rabat by Minister of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development, Bassima Hakkaoui, one out of four households (24.5 pc) has at least a person with disabilities.

    The disability prevalence rate stood at 6.99 pc in rural areas, compared to 6.66 pc in urban areas, while it is 6.8 pc among women and 6.7 pc among men, the survey added.

   Regarding the national prevalence rate by age group, it amounts to 33.7 pc among the elderly over 60 years (33.7 pc), compared to 4.8 pc among those aged between 15 and 59, and 1.8 pc among the population aged under 15.

   According to the survey, 50.2 pc of persons with disabilities suffer from motor disabilities, 25.1 pc of mental disabilities and 23.8 pc of visual impairment.
