Morocco and the Gulf cooperation Council (GCC) aspire to boost cooperation in civil aviation as part of their efforts to reinforce their strategic partnership, Civil Aviation Director Zakaria Belghazi said Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting in Rabat about civil aviation, held by the Equipment, Transport and Logistics Ministry, Belghazi said that this event is aimed at setting up a framework for permanent and structured cooperation between the Kingdom and the GCC countries.

Air transport with Gulf Cooperation Council countries have remarkably developed over the past decade, as the number of passengers exceeded 1 million in 2015 compared to 245,000 in 2006, noting that air traffic increased by 12.5 pc between 2004 and 2015.

He also noted that the strategy adopted by the kingdom to develop and modernize its airport platforms attaches great importance to promoting the civil aviation sector as an essential pillar for the socio-economic development of the country.
