Morocco Has Made Qualitative Leap in Blood Donation in Recent Years

Morocco has made a qualitative leap in blood donation in recent years, notably after the National Blood Donation Campaign, chaired by HM King Mohammed VI in March 2013, said, Tuesday in Marrakech, Health minister, El Houssaine Louardi.

"Since the National Blood Donation Campaign, the number of donors has increased by 35% from 2012 to 2016, covering 132% of blood needs in 2016 according to the index of the World Health Organization (WHO), which takes into account the number of hospital beds," he told the opening ceremony of the 11th Arab Congress of Blood Transport Services, held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI under the theme "Ethics and security of transfusion services.”

The blood transfusion centers in Morocco, the minister added, have significantly improved, mainly regarding techniques used in blood fragmentation and identification analyzes of blood groups.

For years, Morocco has adopted free and voluntary blood donation through Law 94-03 and has worked to promote the culture of generosity and solidarity in order to manage this sector, and to equip the centers with the most sophisticated technological means to ensure the safety of blood transfusion services, Louardi noted.
