Morocco-MCC: Cooperation Agreement for Implementation of Land Governance Project
Head of government Saad Dine El Otmani and Ivanka Trump, adviser to US President Donald Trump, presided, on Thursday in Rabat, over the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on the implementation of the land governance project.
The agreement was signed by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit and Millennium Challenge Corporation CEO Sean Cairncross, in the presence of members of the government, the Chargé d'affaires of the US Embassy in Rabat, the director resident of MCC in Morocco and the managing director of the Millennium Challenge Account Agency-Morocco (MCA Morocco).
It aims to support the implementation of the new laws related to the Soulaliyates lands, within the framework of Women's Global Development and Prosperity Initiative (W-GDP), as well as the elaboration and implementation of the national land strategy project.
Under this agreement, a center will be set up to foster the integration of the gender approach in the project of the Soulaliyates lands' melkisation for the benefit of the beneficiaries. The center will be in charge of establishing a database on women's land rights to promote their access to land as beneficiaries.
This database will help with monitoring the evolution of the number of beneficiaries before and after the revision of the relevant legal framework, while ensuring that the rightful heirs are able to enjoy their land rights in accordance with the rules laid down in the Family Law, through awareness raising and training for stakeholders, including representatives of the Soulaliyate communities and the Adoul.
In addition, the MCC will support the development of the National Land Strategy Project and the implementation of the priority procedures of this strategy after its adoption, with the aim of promoting women's access to land ownership.
Ivanka Trump arrived on Wednesday at Rabat-Salé airport for a visit to the Kingdom, marked by talks with several Moroccan officials.
Ivanka's visit is aimed at the promotion of the Women's Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) initiative, to help with the economic emancipation of 50 million women by 2025.
