Morocco Obtains Observer Member Status in Andean Community of Nations

The Kingdom of Morocco has obtained an observer member status within the Andean Community of Nations, during the 20th meeting of the Andean Presidential Council held this Wednesday in Bogotá, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad announced.

This status granted to the Kingdom, as the first Arab and African country, consolidates its position as a privileged interlocutor in the Latin American region and confirms its positioning as a credible partner, in an international context marked by economic interdependence and cultural interaction, the same source said in a statement.

This membership will enhance the process of bringing Morocco and Latin American countries closer, and this as part of the strengthening of the policy of openness advocated by HM King Mohammed VI, it said, recalling that our country enjoys the status of observer member in nine regional organizations: four parliamentary ones (Parlacen, Foprel, Parlandino, Parlatino), four political ones (SICA, OAS, SEGIB, AEC) and the predominantly economic Pacific Alliance.

The Andean Community of Nations (CAN), founded in 1997, is a regional group which counts as member countries Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, representing approximately 23% of the surface area and the population of the Latin American subcontinent.
