Morocco Strongly Condemns Polisario Recent Provocative Actions in Tifariti, 'New and Serious Violation of Ceasefire'

The Kingdom of Morocco "strongly condemns" the recent provocative actions carried out by the "Polisario" in the locality of Tifariti, east of Morocco's defense system in the Moroccan Sahara and "considers that this is a new and serious violation of the ceasefire and a flagrant challenge to the authority of the UN Security Council," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said on Saturday.

Cornered by the latest UN Security Council resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, and visibly embarrassed by the confirmation of links with the terrorist group of Hezbollah, Algeria and the "Polisario" have decided to multiply irresponsible actions, the ministry pointed out in a statement, adding that it is in this context that the Kingdom of Morocco strongly condemns the recent provocative actions carried out by the "Polisario" in the locality of Tifariti, to the east of the defense system in the Moroccan Sahara.

Morocco considers this as "a new and serious violation of the ceasefire and a flagrant challenge to the authority of the UN Security Council", it added.

The Kingdom, which has officially informed the President of the Security Council and its members, the Secretary General of the United Nations and the Minurso, is asking them to shoulder their responsibilities and to take the necessary measures in response to these unacceptable actions.

While the Security Council is calling for resuming the political process with a view to reaching a realistic, pragmatic and sustainable solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, these provocative acts by the other parties seriously undermine the efforts of the United Nations, the source said.

Morocco regrets that this escalation takes place with the blessing and complicity of a neighboring country, a member of the Arab Maghreb Union, but which it violates the charter: By closing the borders and sheltering on its soil an armed movement that threatens the territorial integrity of another member, it added.

This country, instead of respecting the principles of good neighborliness and the imperatives of regional stability, continues to encourage its "Polisario" mercenaries in their destabilizing action, in violation of international law, the ministry underlined.

Morocco officially asks the relevant UN bodies to open an international investigation to shed light on the situation in the Tindouf camps that are managed by the "Polisario" in Algeria, where Moroccan nationals are held against their will in degrading and inhuman conditions, and where the humanitarian aid provided by the international community is embezzled to be sold on the markets of the host country to secure the personal enrichment of the "Polisario", it said.

The Kingdom of Morocco reiterates its firm determination to defend its territorial integrity and its national unity throughout the Moroccan Sahara, and asks the United Nations, and more particularly the Minurso, to fulfill its mandate in addressing the repeated violations of the ceasefire, the source added.
