Morocco Succeeded in Rising to COP22 Challenge, Official

Morocco succeeded in rising to the challenge of the 22nd conference of parties to the UN framework convention on climate change (COP22), which was held on Nov. 7-18 in Marrakesh, said, on Tuesday in Rabat, minister delegate for the environment Hakima El Haite.

"Morocco succeeded in rising to a huge challenge, which is the organization of the COP22, with the participation of more than 30,000 people and 197 parties, including the European Union," El Haite told a Post-COP22 conference held under the theme "The Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action: A New Framework for Strengthening Climate Action".

On the COP22 occasion, Morocco was at the "center of all international diplomacy", noted the minister, stressing that the Kingdom has shown its capacity to host major events "in the best conditions".

The minister and Morocco's high-level champion for climate noted that this COP was a revolution in climate decisions, recalling the signing of the first global partnership between state and non-state actors.

El Haite also highlighted the role of universities in the fight against climate change and the establishment of a new model of sustainable development.
