Interior Minister Underlines in Algiers Morocco's Readiness to Share Counterterrorism Experience with Arab Countries

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit underlined, Wednesday in Algiers, Morocco's readiness to share its counterterrorism experience with Arab countries to bolster cooperation in this area.

Speaking at the 35th session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, Laftit said that no country could claim fighting by itself the phenomenon of terrorism and cross-border crime without an intense and efficient cooperation with the different parties.

In this regard, the minister recalled security challenges related to all forms of crime and which threaten countries' national security, calling for joint action among Arab countries.

The Kingdom of Morocco, due to its geostrategic position, is not immune to these threats, a fact that urges it to constantly develop its security strategy, particularly with regard to the fight against illegal emigration, drug trafficking and their combination with organized and cross-border crime, the minister added.

In an international and regional context marked by the upsurge of illegal emigration, Morocco is experiencing again changes in human inflows, which made it adopt in 2014 a human initiative meant to protect the fundamental rights of emigrants, in accordance with international law, Laftit noted, citing as an example the two operations to regularize the administrative situation of illegal immigrants in the Kingdom.

In the same vein, illegal immigrants have benefited from the "voluntary return program" in their countries of origin in conditions that respect human dignity, he added.

Laftit also highlighted that Morocco's efforts earned him the recognition of his international partners, especially African countries that have welcomed the commitment of HM King Mohammed VI, as Leader of the African Union on the issue of migration, during the 28th Summit of the Union.

This session will be marked by the presentation of the Report of the Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers on the activities of the General Secretariat, a draft of a progress plan for the implementation of the Arab Intellectual Security Strategy, a draft of a sixth progress plan for the Arab road safety strategy, a draft of the ninth Arab security plan and a draft of the seventh Arab media plan for security awareness and prevention of crime.
