Morocco's economy generated 27,000 jobs between 2014 Q1-2015 Q1, HCP

The Moroccan economy generated 27,000 jobs between the first quarter of 2014 and that of 2015 as a result of creating 45,000 jobs in the urban area and losing 18,000 jobs in the rural area, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) said on Tuesday.

The global volume of employment rose from 10,486,000 to 10,513,000 between the two periods, resulting in the net creation of 27,000 jobs, the HCP stated in a note on the situation of the job market in the first quarter of 2015.

 With an increase in the volume of active population, the employment rate decreased by 0.6 point nationally, jumping from 42.9% to 42.3%, and posting a drop of 36% to 35.6% in the urban area, and from 53.5% to 52.9% in the rural area, the same source added.

On the sectoral level, the sector of agriculture, forest and fisheries came on top with the creation of 14,000 jobs, that is +0.4% of the sector's employment's volume, followed by the industrial sector, including the handicraft with 9,000 jobs, with +0.8%, including about 8,000 by the extractive industries.
