Morocco's Higher Council of Judiciary, Supreme Court of Singapore Sign MoU

Morocco’s Higher Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court of Singapore signed, on Tuesday in Singapore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen judicial cooperation between the two countries.

The Memorandum was inked by deputy chairman of the Higher Council of the Judiciary, first president of the Court of Cassation, Mustapha Fares, and president of the Supreme Court of Singapore, Sundaresh Menon.

Speaking on this occasion, Fares said that Morocco is engaged in a dynamic of accelerating judicial reform by enshrining the independence of the judiciary, in accordance with the provisions of the 2011 Constitution.

During his meeting with president of the Supreme Court of Singapore, Fares stressed that the Moroccan model is a pioneering experience to promote a judicial power with a diverse, open and multidisciplinary composition, in charge of major societal missions.

He also noted that his visit to Singapore is part of the Strategic Plan of the Higher Council of the Judiciary aimed at consolidating relations between the two countries and opening up to the main international legislative and judicial experiences with similar foreign institutions and specialized foreign bodies in the field.

On this occasion, Menon praised Morocco's judicial experience and achievements in terms of the independence of the judiciary.

The MoU on judicial exchanges and cooperation signed by Morocco’s Higher Council of the Judiciary and the Supreme Court of Singapore is meant to establish a framework for cooperation between the two parties, improve the work of judicial officials, exchange expertise and experience in the judicial field and strengthen institutional and judicial capacities, particularly in the field of cross-border trade disputes.
