Lower House Speaker Represents HM the King at Inauguration Ceremony of Chilean President-elect

Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house) Habib El Malki represented HM King Mohammed VI, Sunday in Valparaiso, at the inauguration ceremony of Chilean president-elect Sebastián Piñera.

The newly elected president arrived at the congress headquarters in Valparaiso (120 km north of Santiago), where he was greeted with the applause from a large audience and the heads of State and government present on this occasion, as well as official delegations and accredited diplomats in Santiago.

On Saturday, El Malki was received by Sebastián Piñera in Santiago.

During this audience, the Moroccan official presented, on behalf of the kingdom of Morocco, to the Chilean president-elect his heartfelt congratulations of full success in his high office.

For his part, Sebastián Piñera recalled the importance of friendship and cooperation links between Morocco and Chile, commending in this regard the choice by HM King Mohammed VI of his country to host the Mohammed VI Cultural Center for the dialogue of civilizations in Coquimbo, a significant facility that promotes Moroccan culture in Chile and in Latin America.

Lower House Speaker Holds Talks in Santiago with Chilean Peer

Speaker of the House of Representatives (Morocco’s lower house), Habib El Malki, held talks here on Monday with President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Chile, Maya Fernández Allende.

During this meeting, which was attended by Morocco’s ambassador to Chile, Kenza Elghali, El Malki hailed the excellent relations of cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

The framework agreement signed recently in Rabat between Morocco’s House of Representatives and Chile’s Chamber of Deputies reflects the strong relations between the two institutions, El Malki said.

The Moroccan official called on to open up new horizons for parliamentary cooperation and to contribute to the strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Morocco and Chile are working to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments and to advance parliamentary diplomacy to serve common interests, El Malki told MAP.

The newly elected president of the Republic of Chile Sebastián Piñera said, Saturday, that the territorial integrity of Morocco is a constant principle for his country.

At the ceremony of his investiture, which was attended by speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki, Piñera reiterated the consistency of his country's position that supports the territorial integrity of Morocco, said a statement by the lower house.

Regarding trade and economic cooperation, the president-elect said there are important areas for fruitful and effective partnership between the two countries, notably in the agricultural and tourism sectors.

Piñera, who commended the leadership of Morocco in renewable energy, also expressed his country's willingness to take advantage of the kingdom’s experience in this area.

Furthermore, he lauded the excellent relations linking Chile and Morocco, and "which will certainly be strengthened, given the values and the principles we share."

He also highlighted the important role played by the Mohammed VI Cultural Center for the dialogue of civilizations since it opened in the city of Coquimbo in 2007.

For his part, El Malki stressed that Morocco welcomes Chile's position on the integrity of the Kingdom and supports it in the fight against all the political and socio-economic challenges it faces.

 He underlined the relevance of Chile's economic choices, which opted for openness, becoming one of the countries with the most free trade agreements.
