Palestine: Morocco reiterates in New York its condemnation of Israeli aggressions

Foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar said, on Thursday in New York, that Morocco reiterates its condemnation of Israeli aggressions against Palestinians, noting that HM King Mohammed VI called for holding as soon as possible an extraordinary summit by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Al Quds Asharif.

Speaking at an emergency meeting by the council of foreign ministers of OIC member states on the Al Quds Asharif, Mezouar said that the royal initiative seeks to examine measures to be taken to stop assaults against the Al Aqsa Mosque and the holy city, and contribute to resuming peace talks to reach a just, lasting and global solution to the Palestinian issue.

During this meeting, chaired by Kuwait on the sidelines of the 70th UNGA, the minister underlined that Morocco calls for ending Israeli colonization, preserving Islam holy sites and establishing an independent state with Al Quds Asharif as capital.

The way to peace goes inevitably by the preservation of Al Quds Asharif legal status and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, said the Moroccan diplomat.

Mezouar noted that Morocco will continue its efforts to reinforce the spirit of solidarity and cooperation to address the challenges facing the Islamic Ummah, underlining the need the preserve immutable values and identity specificities and overcome inner divisions.

He also stressed the need to shield oneself from extremist ideas and counter politicized or ideological interpretation of religion which exacerbate tensions and terrorist threats in the region.

He urged a concerted and responsible position to help peacefully resolve crises in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Libya.
