Partnership between Morocco, WB is 'Very Solid'

The partnership between Morocco and the World Bank Group (WB) is "very solid" and "is consolidated further over the years", said, Monday in Casablanca, World Bank Country Director for the Maghreb, Marie Françoise Marie-Nelly.

During a meeting with the press to present the results of the strategic partnership between the two parties for the 2014-2017period, and the new phase of cooperation (2018-2023), Marie-Nelly hailed the level of cooperation achieved between WB Group and the Moroccan government, which led to "very good results."

"We have succeeded in mobilizing significant finances of $3.7 billion over the past stage and we have helped the Moroccan government in important projects to achieve sustainable development," she added.

According to Marie-Nelly, "Morocco has made significant efforts in a number of areas thanks to the World Bank's support for various sectors of economic and social activity, including agriculture, health, solar energy, drinking water supply, etc.”

Despite the gains made during the previous phase, it is also important to focus on a number of challenges still to be met, particularly in the employment, education and health sectors, she went on.

“In the next five years (2018-2023), we are planning to tackle three main themes: employment, human resources (education and social protection) and territorial development," she said, stressing the need to give more attention to remote rural areas of the kingdom in order to promote their development.

Marie-Nelly also called for a "better involvement" of governance in various areas of activity. In this regard, she noted that the partnership between the two parties "aims to strengthen institutional arrangements, efficient management of budgetary resources and citizen participation".
