President of Australian Senate Calls for Strengthening Cooperation between Moroccan and Australian Parliaments

President of the Australian Senate, Stephen Parry, stressed on Thursday in Canberra the need to strengthen cooperation between the parliaments of Morocco and Australia through the exchange of visits and experiences.

During a meeting with Morocco’s ambassador to Australia, Karim Medrek, Parry expressed his interest in Morocco’s experience in good governance, tourism and the fight against terrorism, saying that an exchange of experiences in these fields could be beneficial to both countries.

In his turn, Medrek highlighted the political dynamics of the Kingdom and Morocco’s democratic achievements following the constitutional reform of 2011.

The Moroccan diplomat also highlighted the economic opportunities offered by Morocco through its openness to regional markets and the development of its infrastructure and logistics sector.

Talks also focused on the means to step up parliamentary cooperation through the re-establishment of the Parliamentary Groups of Friendship and exchanges of visits between members of the legislative institutions of the two countries.

The two sides also discussed several issues of common interest, including renewable energies and security.
