President Ouattara Reiterates Côte d'Ivoire's Support for Morocco's Accession to ECOWAS

Ivorian president Alassane Ouattara reiterated his country's support for Morocco's accession to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, stressing the importance for this regional organization to open up to other countries.

"Côte d'Ivoire is in favor of this accession, because we consider that enlarging the economic space is good for growth," noted the Ivorian head of State in an interview published by the international weekly "Jeune Afrique" in its latest issue, recalling that the ECOWAS Commission has been mandated to study the issue and two Summits have already discussed it.

"As far as we are concerned, we are in favor of Morocco's accession," he underlined.

"Why can't ECOWAS open up to countries like Morocco, Mauritania or Chad? This would be good for all of us and in line with the free trade area of the African continent," president Ouattara added.
