Right to food: Morocco has vast array of well-formulated policies, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food

Morocco has a vast array of well-formulated policies that are in phase with international standards related to the right to food, said, on Monday in Rabat, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food Hilal Elver.

Overall, Morocco has a vast array of well-formulated strategies and policies that are in phase with international standards related to the right to food, she said at a press conference following her working visit to Morocco (Oct 5-12).

She also called for reinforcing coordination between the concerned bodies, and developing a nation-wide strategy on the right to food with clear goals and financial resources, and a well-defined agenda that includes regions also.

Over the past years, Morocco launched several important reforms, mainly the 2011 new constitution which comprises provisions on the protection of human rights and lays the bases for a more inclusive economic growth, she said, hoping that the right to food be explicitly recognized in the constitutional text.

She also noted that the progress that was made in the achievements of the MDGs is due chiefly to the national initiative for human development (INDH).
