Round Table Meeting on Sahara Issue Consolidated Morocco's Diplomatic Achievements

The round table meeting on the question of the Moroccan Sahara, held recently in Geneva, was marked by significant changes, and consolidated the achievements that Moroccan diplomacy continues to make under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, said, Thursday in Rabat, minister delegate for Relations with Parliament and Civil Society, government spokesman, Mustapha El Khalfi.

Among these significant changes, stakeholders were invited to take part in the meeting and gathered around the same table, said El Khalfi at a press briefing following the weekly Cabinet meeting, noting that Morocco's consistent position remains that Algeria is a key player in finding a solution to this artificial dispute, a position that HM the King has repeatedly reaffirmed and reiterated in the royal message sent last March to the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on the Moroccan Sahara.

Morocco's participation in this round table meeting and its commitment to supporting the efforts of the United Nations SG's Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara, Horst Köhler, stem from a growing willingness to overcome unrealistic possibilities or solutions raised in the past that have proved to be impractical, he added.

El Khalfi noted that Morocco has long proposed the idea of finding a realistic solution, the basis of which is the autonomy project within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.
