Spanish Interior Minister : Official Visit of Spanish Sovereigns to Morocco, Distinguished Event Illustrating Fraternal Ties Uniting Both Royal Families

The official visit of the Spanish Sovereigns to Morocco, at the invitation of HM King Mohammed VI, is "an important and distinguished event" that illustrates the "fraternal" relations binding the two Royal Families, said Spanish Interior minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.

In an interview with MAP, Grande-Marlaska added that this is a visit to a "sister" country with which Spain shares a common history, as well as cultural, economic and political ties.

"The significance and scope of this visit are well established. Morocco knows that it is considered by Spain as a privileged partner of great importance," he stressed.

This official visit of the Spanish Sovereigns to the Kingdom "confirms, once again, that Morocco and Spain are more than two neighboring countries," Grande-Marlaska said.

Asked about the migration challenge facing Morocco and Spain, the Spanish official pointed out that both countries have suffered from "very strong" migration pressure in recent years.

He noted that the Kingdom is making enormous efforts to meet this challenge, in particular by mobilizing significant human and financial resources to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking mafias.

The Spanish minister described as "very important" bilateral cooperation in this area, noting that Rabat and Madrid are working to further consolidate it in order to cope with the ever-increasing migratory pressure due to the displacement of illegal migrants' flows to the Western Mediterranean.

Referring to Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in the security field, particularly in relation to the fight against terrorism and organized crime, Grande-Marlaska commended the excellent level of collaboration between the two countries in combating these two phenomena, which "endanger our rule of law and try to disrupt peaceful coexistence within our societies".
