Spanish Interior Minister Underlines Importance of Counterterrorism Cooperation with Morocco
Spanish interior minister Juan Ignacio Zoido underlined, on Tuesday, the importance of cooperation between Spain and Morocco in fighting jihadist terrorism, following the arrest on the same day of four ISIS-linked people as part of security cooperation between the Moroccan and Spanish services.
"Together we are stronger," the minister told the press on the sidelines of a visit to Algeciras (south of Spain), describing as excellent this cooperation which is simultaneously led in Morocco and Spain.
Zoido, who highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two countries to counter this phenomenon, said the arrested people intended to radicalize as many internet users as they can.
The Spanish official recalled that, since 2015, the year during which the terrorism threat was raised to level 4, the Spanish security forces had apprehended 217 jihadist terrorists in Spain.
The Central Bureau for Judiciary Investigations (BCIJ), under the general directorate for territory surveillance (DGST), arrested on Tuesday an ISIS supporter operating in the city of Tangiers, the interior ministry said earlier this day in a statement.
In parallel with this security operation, the Spanish security services nabbed three other people related to the said ISIS supporter.
