UN: International Expert Underlines Polisario's Illegitimacy to Represent Sahrawis
International expert and jurist Nykaky Lygeros highlighted on Wednesday before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly the illegitimacy of the Polisario to represent Sahrawis, noting that the very nature of this separatist movement is today challenged at the international level.
Referring to the bitter failure suffered by the Polisario and its mentors in trying to challenge in court the agricultural and fishing agreements between Morocco and the European Union, Lygeros noted that the European Court of Justice has simply dismissed the Polisario's complaint based on the fact that this movement is not representative of the Sahrawi populations.
The Polisario has not only suffered a significant judicial setback in this affair, but has also been strategically out of the game, in the sense that it cannot claim any representativeness of the Sahrawis at all, he pointed out, adding that the leaders of this separatist movement are, in the end, only puppets in the hands of a neighboring state that manipulates them.
Thus, for this renowned expert, the Polisario is only an "ideological error as an entity" that can convince neither the Sahrawi population nor the international community as to its objectives.
