Women's Political Participation: Moroccan Experience On Display Before IPU Assembly

Morocco's experience in women's political participation was displayed Thursday before the representatives of the 141 Member Parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which held its 131st meeting in Geneva.

During a debate on "the influence of women in parliament," held as part of this annual event, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation underlined the kingdom's commitment in favor of the emancipation of women and the promotion of parity.

"Morocco aims to give women at least a third of the seats in the legislative body, in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution," said MP Rachida Benmassoud from the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP-opposition).

This orientation, she said, stems from the will to fight discrimination and promote greater women's presence in future elections, in line with the principle of gender equality.
