HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Chairs Opening of 14th International Agricultural Fair in Meknes

HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan chaired, on Tuesday at Sahrij Souani in Meknes, the opening of the 14th edition of the International Agricultural Fair (SIAM 2019), held on April 16-21 under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, on the theme "Agriculture, employment lever and future of the rural world".

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan handed the distinctive signs of origin and quality to four farmers/producers, namely Abbas Mustapha, president of the economic interest group (GIE) "Oasis de Figuig" (dates), Mohamed Ait Aiyad, president of the El Haouz provincial agricultural association specializing in walnut development, Abderrahman Outaleb, president of the agricultural cooperative of Dait Aoua (Ifrane province) and El Yajiji Mustapha, president of the green union (economic and ecological interest group) for fig development in Oulad Frej.

At the entry of the fair, His Royal Highness was greeted by Bernard Lehman, Director of the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (guest of honor), Dossouhoui Cossi Gaston, Benin's Minister of Agriculture, Rumen Porodzanov, Bulgaria's Minister of Agriculture, and Henri Djombo, Congo Brazzaville's Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture.

HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan was also greeted by Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, Côte d'Ivoire's Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Biendi Maganga Moussavou, Gabon's Minister of Agriculture, Roger Patrick Millimono, Guinea Conakry's Minister of Livestock, Mogana Flomo, Minister of Agriculture of Liberia, Mohamed Boucha, Niger's Minister of Agriculture, Ali Bety, Minister High Commissioner for the "3N" initiative of Niger, Lydie Beassemda, Minister of Production, Irrigation and agricultural equipment of Chad and Michael Stübgen, MP, German Secretary of State.

Afterwards, His Royal Highness visited the fair's different areas and was given details on products exhibited in the areas of "regions", Moroccan agriculture", "Sponsors and Institutions", "Local Products", "Breeding","International","Agricultural Supplies","Agricultural Products" and "Nature and Life".

His Royal Highness also visited the "Conferences" area hosting the Crédit Agricole du Maroc forum for youth entrepreneurship in rural areas.

The SIAM is a crucial annual event to present the progress of Morocco in the agricultural field and confirm the important role played by agriculture as one of the major levers of economic growth.

Built over an area of 185,000 m², this exhibition, which is attended by 1,500 exhibitors from 60 countries, is a good opportunity to discuss a number of issues related to the Moroccan agriculture, mainly ways of promoting employment in the rural world, in accordance with the instructions of HM King Mohammed VI.
