HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa Receives in Kyoto Honorary Degree from Ritsumeikan University
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, was awarded, Tuesday in Kyoto (Japan), an honorary degree (honoris causa) of doctor from Ritsumeikan University.
During a ceremony at Ritsumeikan's campus, to which several university officials were invited, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa expressed her pride in receiving this high academic distinction.
President of the University, Mikio Yoshida, underlined, in a speech on this occasion, that this honorary degree is a tribute to the considerable efforts and outstanding contribution of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa in the field of environmental education and sustainable development.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa is strongly committed to environmental causes. As Chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, Her Royal Highness has launched numerous programs to enhance sustainable development, coastal conservation, sustainable tourism, air-climate, historic gardens and the Marrakech Palm grove.
The awarding of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa is an opportunity to establish cooperation links in the field of education for sustainable development between the Foundation and the Japanese University.
Subsequently, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa posed for a souvenir photo with university officials and Moroccan and Japanese personalities.
After the ceremony, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa visited Ritsumeikan primary school, where the officials presented their innovative pedagogical approach, given Her Royal Highness' interest in educating the youngest children on the principles of environmental protection.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa visited knowledge spaces in this school, such as the library of 37,000 books, one of the most important for a primary school in the country, and spaces of discovery and innovation, including the robotics room.
