HM the King Awards Mohammed VI Prize to Scholars of Literacy Program in Mosques

HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, awarded, after performing the Friday prayer at the "Errahma" mosque in Rabat, the Mohammed VI Prize to scholars of the national program to fight illiteracy in mosques for the year 2016-2017.

These are Laaziza Ibrahim (Errachidia), Nezha Azzouzi (Guercif), Aziza El Alaoui (Salé), Naima Ait Ali Ibrahim (Ain Chock) and Khadija Touil Akkana (Tangier).

The national program to fight illiteracy in mosques was launched in accordance with the high royal instructions contained in the Sovereign's speech on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People (August 20, 2000), in which HM the King said that the mosques should remain open to provide literacy courses as well as religious, civic and health education, according to a well-developed program.

This program, which reflects the special interest of the Sovereign in the development of the human element, has also enabled the mosques to regain their avant-garde position in matters of guidance, spiritual orientation and literacy, as well as their role in building a democratic, modern and open society, based on the rejection of exclusion and marginalization, the fight against poverty and ignorance.

The national program to combat illiteracy in mosques has achieved very positive results, mainly due to an increase in the number of mosques participating in it and in the number of supervisors, coordinators and pedagogical advisors. Therefore, for the year 2016-2017, the number of the program's beneficiaries reached 302,699 enrolled people.
