HM the King Launches Construction Works of Two Health Centers in Marrakech

HM King Mohammed VI launched, on Tuesday in the old medina of Marrakech, the construction works of a primary health care center and an addiction treatment center in Hay El Mellah.

These projects, which require an overall investment of 12 million dirhams, stem from the royal will to strengthen the healthcare offer through the development of proximity medical services that meet the needs of citizens, especially those in vulnerable situations.

The 8-million dirham primary health care center, which will be built on 630 m2, is an integral part of an action plan led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity aimed at supporting the national medical sector.

It meets a very pressing need for medical accessibility in a neighborhood with a population of more than 16,000 people served by a single health center and where the nearest hospital is relatively remote.

The second project concerns the construction, in the El Mellah district, of an addiction treatment center, the second of its kind carried out by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in Marrakech.

The 4-million dirham center is a privileged tool for care, awareness, diagnosis, prevention and psychosocial support. It is part of a national program to combat addictive behavior, led since 2010 by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, in partnership with the Ministries of Health and the Interior.

Like those carried out by the Foundation in Casablanca, Rabat, Oujda, Nador, Marrakech (Guéliz district), Tetouan, Tangier and Fez, or those under construction in the districts of Mghogha in Tangier and Sidi Moumen in Casablanca, the future addiction treatment center will develop awareness-raising and prevention measures against the use of narcotics, guarantee customized, medical and social care of people suffering from addictive behavior, and promote the effective involvement of families in prevention actions.

It will also promote the social reintegration of the persons concerned, as well as the supervision and training of associations in the field of risk reduction.

Covering an area of 460 m2, the addiction treatment center in the El Mellah district will have a community space (library, multimedia library, computer room, sports hall, multi-purpose hall and an associative office) and a medical space with treatment and consultation rooms in general medicine, psychiatry-psychology and addictology.
