Here follows a statement by the Royal Office:
"HM King Mohammed VI received, on Thursday 13 December 2018 at the Royal Palace of Rabat, Mohamed Benalilou, whom the Sovereign has appointed as Ombudsman.
On this occasion, HM the King recalled the role of the Ombudsman Institution, as an independent national body, in enshrining rights and ending injustices, and its particular role in preserving the rights of citizens in their relations with the administration, as well as its action aimed at providing justice to them against abuse of any kind, under the rule of law and within the framework of the consolidation of the principles of justice and equity.
HM the King has also given His guidelines to the Mediator to continue the action to consolidate the achievements made, while ensuring the full implementation of the powers of this Institution both with regard to mediation and rapprochement procedures and in respect of proposing legal proceedings, as well as in terms of the popularization of its role and powers and interaction with aggrieved citizens.
The Sovereign also called on the Institution of the Ombudsman to continue its contribution to upholding the principles of the rule of law, transparency and good governance in the management of public services and the moralization of public life, as well as the publication of recommendations aimed at guaranteeing the equality of citizens before the law and the administration and improving the quality of services provided by public institutions, State services and local authorities".
