Statement by Royal Office

Here follows a statement by the Royal Office:

"HM King Mohammed VI chaired, on Thursday at Rabat royal palace, a working session on the issue of water.

On this occasion, the sovereign stressed the question of water supply in the zones north and north-east of the Kingdom, which extend from Oujda to Tangiers.

These regions' water needs more than double in the summer and throughout the year due to tourism development and the remarkable dynamism spurred by existing important industrial projects or projects and jobs generated by these sectors.

These socio-economic projects, like the Renault car production ecosystem and the Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City project, conducted in partnership with Chinese operators, require the reinforcement of water supply capacity.

This need will be met thanks to interconnection diagrams and the three large dams which will be built in this area including the Bni Mansour one with a capacity of over 1 billion cubic meters.

In addition, HM the King gave his instructions to the government to finalize the national priority program on water and its management, which will be discussed in meetings chaired by the sovereign and will focus on securing water supply for areas experiencing a chronic lack of it.

This meeting was attended by head of the government Saad Dine El Otmani, Adviser of HM the King Fouad Ali El Himma, Minister of Agriculture Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Equipment Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Energy Aziz Rabbah, Minister Delegate for the Interior Noureddine Boutayeb, and Director of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water Abderrahim El Hafidi.
