6th Morocco-India Joint Committee Convenes in New Delhi

The sixth session of the Morocco-India Joint Committee was held Wednesday in New Delhi to review the development of relations between the two countries and to discuss the means to step up bilateral cooperation.

The session was chaired by minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid El Alamy, and India's Minister of State for Commerce, Industry and food, Chhotu Ram Chaudhary.

"The Joint Committee is an important meeting in the bilateral agenda that can enable us to develop a stronger cooperation in order to meet the aspirations of the two countries", El Alamy said.

"A strong impetus was given to bilateral relations with the visit paid by HM King Mohammed VI to India in 2015 and the meeting of the Sovereign with the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, at which the two Heads of State decided to build a Strategic Partnership," he pointed out.

The 6th session of the Joint Committee touched on several issues, including industry, agriculture, tourism, fisheries, rail transport, rural development, health, the pharmaceutical industry, telemedicine, energy, mining, sustainable development, higher education and scientific research.

The two parties agreed to build a sustainable economic partnership, to prepare a legal framework to end double taxation and to establish a joint working group to deal with the issue of tariff and non-tariff barriers in order to increase trade between the two countries.

Discussions also focused on other sectors, including justice, security, health, culture, social economy, vocational training and youth and sports.

The two sides stressed the need to simplify business visa issuance with a view to promoting economic activities between the two countries.
