Arab World: Morocco Calls for Focusing on Common Elements that Strengthen Inter-Arab Cohesion

Morocco reiterated, on Tuesday in Cairo, its call to focus on common elements that reinforce inter-Arab cohesion following the tensions in the region.

"Within the context of deep historical ties, relations of permanent solidarity and the renewed strategic partnership connecting it to its brothers in the Arab world, the Kingdom of Morocco reiterates its call to focus on the common elements that reinforce inter-Arab cohesion following the tensions in some of our countries," said Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mounia Boucetta at the opening of the 152nd session of the Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level.

Morocco calls for restraint, reason and logic, and to rely on the values of Arab and Islamic brotherhood, based on cooperation and solidarity," she added.

The Kingdom calls, in this regard, for sustained efforts to bring the regional and international community to establish good neighborliness and cooperation relations, on the basis of respect for the sovereignty of States, the preservation of their territorial integrity and the non-interference in their domestic affairs, said Boucetta.

"The direct threats to the common Arab security force us to interact with positivity and anticipation in these difficult times," she insisted, stressing that "we must ask ourselves the compelling question of how to get things back on track to face these threats".

Today's session offers us the renewed opportunity to conduct an objective analysis of the situation in an Arab world that is facing, unfortunately, all kinds of conflicts and plans meant for division, support for separatism, the escalation of border and tribal disputes, and the squandering of the region's resources, noted the Secretary of State.

She underlined the lack of a clear common vision to address these challenges, so as to preserve the security of States, their stability and territorial integrity.

This vision, Boucetta went on to say, must be based on a multidimensional political, economic, social and cultural approach to safeguard and support Arab security, address common challenges and manage the conflicts between Arab states, on the basis of respect for the Arab League Charter and the deeply-rooted Arab values related to the settlement of disputes through dialogue, understanding and reconciliation.
